Greek, also called Romaic or Hellenic, is a language spoken in Greece, Cyprus, Albania and around the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Greek is the official language of Greece, with an average of over 3,500 years of history as a written language. In the Republic of Cyprus, it is the official language along with Turkish. Greek is generally classified as an independent branch in the Indo-European language family. The language of Classical Greek civilization is Ancient Greek. Modern Greek is very different, although it originates from Ancient Greek. Greek, written in the Greek alphabet, has used this alphabet throughout history.<\/p>

Greek is the native language of approximately 13 million people living mainly in Greece, and also in Australia, Germany and the United States. In Turkey, it is said that there are about 2,500 Greek Orthodox citizens, whose mother tongue is Greek, almost all of whom live in Istanbul, G\u00f6k\u00e7eada and Bozcaada. This language is also used by the people of Trabzon who were Islamized through the 15th and 17th centuries.<\/p>

As one of the oldest languages, Greek consists of sections called Mycenaean, Classical, Hellenistic, Medieval and Modern. Throughout history, it is one of the rare languages that has been able to produce very important literary works in every period.<\/p>

In 1982, with a second law, the polytonic system was abandoned and the monotonic system was adopted. In other words, the diacritical marks used on words to indicate the stressed syllable were reduced from three types to one. This reform was met with a great reaction from conservative circles and was interpreted as the \"Murder of Greek\". Even today, conservative circles still insist on using the polytonic system. But newspapers, magazines, media and the state maintain the new order.<\/p>

In Greek, verbs and adjectives are conjugated in a similar way to German. There are three main types of verb conjugation. However, some irregular verbs may not follow all three rules. As in Turkish, there is no need to use a subject before the conjugated verb. In other words, you can say \"I am going\" instead of \"I am going\". But unlike in Turkish, adjectives are also conjugated in this language. Adjectives are also conjugated on the basis of gender. In Greek, nouns are divided into three as masculine, feminine and neuter. Feminine nouns are indicated by the article \u03b7, masculine nouns by \u03bf and neuter nouns by \u03c4\u03bf. This concept is a foreign rule to the Turkish language. Turkish and any of its relatives do not use definite article before nouns.<\/p>
